FRANCESANDHERTRAMPOLINEANDMORE

Just realised it's been over a week since I last posted anything, so thought I should probably let you know what I've been up to. I'm going to jump in my magic telephone box, dial 220310 and hop on back to last Monday night when I made this cake!

I then took several slices of the cake to Sneaky Pete's on Tuesday night for my lovely friends who work there...and managed to catch a bit of the brilliant Youthmovies for the last time ever. They just did their final ever tour before they all go their separate ways, which is rubbish, but all is not lost as a couple of the guys are in an awesome band called Jonquil...who are just about to go on tour with Foals!! WOW! Anyways, due to the fact that Youthmovies were splitting up, they had a brilliant clearance sale of all their merch and I managed to bag myself a T-Shirt, a tote bag and a beautiful blue 12" record released on Drowned in Sound Recordings from when they were still called Youthmovie Soundtrack Strategies; and all that for £4!!! Here's a wee pic of the record...it's so pretty!

On Thursday I went out to my friends exhibition/DJ thingy called The Grid, which is part of the '99 Hanover Projects' going on down at 99 Hanover Street. The two I want to tell you about are the central piece by the very talented Ross Christie, designer for This Is Music, and the bottom left piece by the super awesome Callum Monteith, one of the Dandy Riots who DJ at This Is Music.

Steven and Callum (Dandy Riots) were DJing at the event with the Club Soda DJs, who will be playing at This Is Music next month, which I can't wait for! After the bar shut we all went out and the night spiralled out of control...I ended up getting absolutely blind drunk...and then had to fight my way through a hangover the next evening whilst DJing at an Under 18s Club at Cab Vol called Boom Town, which was hilarious by the way! All those kids made me feel like the least cool person in the world. I'm pretty much over it now though I reckon. Maybe not though. Hmm.

The next exciting installment of my week would have to be Haddow Fest on Sunday in Edinburgh...even though it wasn't the best organised festival in the world, far from it to be honest, it was actually quite good fun and I managed to see We Were Promised Jetpacks, who were top notch and then some...and then Idlewild, who weren't great...but I think that was more to do with the sound than anything else...they were playing at The HMV Picturehouse and it sounded absolutely rubbish! Jetpacks were on fire down at The Bongo Club though and sounded fucking immense! Super awesome!

Monday was a total write-off due to Sunday's excitement, and now it's Tuesday...although it's technically Wednesday now, and I'm writing this whilst I contemplate a trip to the fridge for some yoghurt. Mmm...yoghurt...

Right, think it's about time for my final thoughts...remember I told you about Ross Christie and how he was super awesome at art and stuff and how I DJ with Dandy Riots at This Is Music!? Well, here's a photo confirming all of that...me with Dandy Riots wearing a Ross Christie original...

This Is Music is on every Friday at Sneaky Pete's and this week we're putting on the amazing My Tiny Robots with support from brilliant Edinburgh band, Cancel The Astronauts and Whitburn lad, Lovers Turn To Monsters...I'll hopefully have some music from them for you next week, until then here's the poster what I did for the gig...

And, I can barely contain myself over this one, but we just confirmed we'll be hosting the single launch party for Dupec on the 25th June. Dupec asked if it was ok that Lyons support them and I asked if they'd mind if I asked Frances And Her Trampoline to join the bill too and they said 'hell yes!', and what's more, Frances And Her Trampoline sent me some tunes for the blog! Win face!

Okay, so here are some tunes for ya then...first up, in honour of my beautiful cake...

Cake - I Will Survive

Youthmovies - Polyp

Dr Dre - Next Episode (Dandy Riots Rmx)

Frances And Her Trampoline - People's Elbow

Frances And Her Trampoline - Cap'n Crunch

So, I really hope you like my track selection this time round, especially Frances And Her Trampoline! I think they're totes awesome and hope you do too!

FUCKBUTTONSZEDSDEAD!

Right, so I don't actually have all that much to say. I'm a wee bitty drunk, I'm watching crappy gameshows on Sky and I should be in my bed...had a bit of a long day, which involved finding a mouse in my living room...a fairly, I'm sure, dead one at that...I trapped it in some tupperware and put it out in the garden. Other than that, I went into work for a couple of hours, had someone come view my flat, then my friend came round for pizza...then I was DJing at Sick Note at Cabaret Voltaire, which was AWESOME!!!!! It reminded me of a couple of totes awesome tracks I just had to tell you about! They're not new, they're just awesome is all. Here they be!

Dolby Anol - Puppies <-----brilliant producers/DJ duo from Glasgow...and, one of the boys is also in Dananananaykroyd!

Radiohead - Pyramid Song (Zeds Dead Illuminati Remix) <-----freakin' incredible producers from Canada!

And finally, the incredible Bristolian (well, they studied there...) duo, Fuck Buttons! I went to ATP last December and managed to somehow miss them twice. TWICE!!! I don't even know how that's possible...anyways, today I found out they're playing at The Arches in Glasgow on the 24th April and I'm SOOOO going to be there! I'm properly excited actually. For anyone who's not heard of them, their music is pretty abrasive and I guess in some ways is somewhat industrial, but it's super enjoyable and addictive. There's an interview in this months issue of The Skinny which quotes them as saying 'We tend to jam it out for a very long time and the more you listen to something the more intracacies you can pick out of it', which is very true of their music...some of their tracks are over 10 minutes long but I wouldn't change them for anyone. The boys are right when they say 'it does have that hypnotic effect on us'. Well, it certainly does on me...so, here's my favourite track from their latest album, Tarot Sport.

Fuck Buttons - Surf Solar <-----playing in Glasgow at The Arches in April!

Oooooh, and apart from music...other things rocking my world today is Threadless!!! They're possibly the best t-shirt people in the World and this week are celebrating 10 years of awesomeness!! Here are three t-shirts I've previously purhchased from them.

Threadless are having a $10 tee sale right now, so head along and bag yourself some bargains! Most of their tees, as well as having the coolest designs, are also printed on American Apparel, so are pretty good quality too!! Get it sorted and get yourself some new threads!!!

Peace. x

ME WANT COOKIE!

Ay up, iD here! Not much to report since last week, other than my suddenly becoming a Dubstep DJ that is...

On Monday I received a text about how I was meant to be DJing at a Fashion Show on Tuesday night...which was the first I'd heard of it. What was even better, was the fact they were expecting me to play Drum'n'Bass and Dubstep. I don't mind a bit of Dubstep, in fact I quite like it...but Drum'n'Bass is a total no go for me! I mean, I've recently started to not mind some of it, but for years it used to make me want to rip out my eyes and stick them in my ears just so I wouldn't have to a) see anyone dancing to it, or b) listen to the it!

So, I called the organiser up and explained that I was more of an indie/electro DJ and she was totally cool with me doing what I normally do, but I felt bad so ended up downloading about 4 hours worth of Dubstep tracks on Tuesday afternoon. It was totally worth it too as I managed to get some absolutely incredible tracks...some of which I felt I just had to share with you! Some for novelty/comedy value and some simply cos they're totes awesome!

Bar 9 - Shut Ya Mouth

Datsik & Flux Pavillion - Game Over (Original Mix)

16 Bit - Toxic (feat. Yael Naim)

Cookie Monsta - Me Want Cookie!

I honestly can't wait until I next get to DJ some Dubstep. I'm a changed woman! And just like Jerry Springer, here's my final thought....look at my horse, my horse is amazing. Give it a lick, it tastes just like raisins...

CLOUDSAREREALLYGOODATMUSIC

So, it's been a pretty loooong week...and a pretty good one at that. After the madness of LDN last week I made a concious effort to have a pretty lazy Sunday and Monday before things kicked off again on Tuesday. Tuesday was unplanned carnage...one of those days you didn't really see coming...and without you even realising, suddenly it's 2 o'clock on Wednesday afternoon and you're left wondering what the hell happened.

My carnage started when late in the day I managed to get myself on the venue guestlist for The XX at Studio 24. Grizzly Bear were playing in town on the same night, so it had always been a tough decision for me as to which one to buy tickets for, then they both sold out, so I was truly expecting to spend my Tuesday night alone in my flat crying on the couch. I went to the gig, saw them along with support from These New Puritans, who were RUBBISH by the way, and then several Jagerbombs, beers, rums, gins, etc later I knew it was gonna be one of those weeks. Thank you friends, Studio 24, Sneaky Pete's & Cabaret Voltaire. You made my day.

Wednesday arrived...I did some recording in the afternoon with jesus h. foxx and then got on a train to Glasgow to DJ at the Detour Scotland night at Bar Bloc. We arrived just as they literally 'kidnapped' the entire population of the bar...took them, and the band who had been playing, across the road for a mental gig in a little underpass off Bath Street. There is a video...which I'll post up here as soon as possible! It was actually amazing, but at the time my slightly broken person couldn't quite handle it.

Another night of no sleep and back to Edinburgh to go to work...then I met up with my amazing 67 year old alcoholic (not really) friend for a curry, several bottles of wine and a good old fashioned chinwag. Then off to Cabaret Voltaire to DJ at Sick Note. Was a bit of a funny night, where nothing really went right...broken CDJ, nippy students and nippy Jose Cuervo Tequilla fucks. 3am, the night is over and I finally get to sleep. Yeeeeeesssss!!! Oh, I forgot to tell you about the picture of the most utterly totes awesome cat my friend text me on my way back from Glasgow...here it is:-

Music-wise, this week I've been loving lots of different stuff...we were DJing at This Is Music last night...which was a night we did in conjunction with Detour Scotland, who I mentioned earlier. On the bill we had MOPP, I See Shapes, The Last Battle and the phenomenal The Moth & The Mirror. If you've not listened to their stuff then you NEED to now! Aaand, I personally don't think their MySpace does them masses of justice, but live they are fucking brilliant and I can't wait to see them again! And here are some wee treats for ya....

Seeing as The XX kicked off my week in style, let's start with their remix of Florence's cover...

Florence & The Machine - You've Got The Love (The XX Remix)

And then, a track I've been really enjoying playing out live during the past few months...it's a classic, but a totes awesome remix!

Daft Punk - Around The World (Kid Dub Remix)

A silly track I heard played as bed music on some crap BBC Three programme the other day, which I then played as our last tune last night...

Shaggy - Boom Shakalaka

And a final thought; CLOUDS ARE REALLY GOOD AT MUSIC!! We recently stumbled upon these awesome young producers from Perth and are in complete awe of their talents. They're playing in Edinburgh soon at FAKE at Sneaky Pete's and we pure canny wait! We'll hopefully get them at one of our nights soon, and will definitely keep you posted on their progress...for now though, why not head along to their site and check them out!? You WON'T regret it. I promise.

Here are a couple of tracks they said we could stick up here! Yaaaaaassss!!

Clouds - Strip Strike

Clouds - Suck It

Until I have more stories to tell...stay totes awesome and enjoy Clouds!

Fukkk Offf

So, we've been fairly quiet on this blog since we set it up, which has been totes unintentional. It's just that we're fairly new at writing down our thoughts and feelings, but after a recent trip to London, where at one point we felt like we were actually IN the internet, we thought we'd better give it a shot.

I'm gonna try and keep it short and sweet; let you know what we're up to, and let you hear a couple of tunes we currently think are totes awesome. As I said previously, we were in LDN last week. The reason; to DJ at a night called Twat Boutique at Dalston Superstore in East London.

Also whilst we were there, we visited our favourite online boutique, Lazy Oaf, but in actual shop form! It was launching the day we were there, so we went along to check it out...were given free cider, goody bags and a nice wee discount on anything we bought. Awesome!

Here are a couple of tunes we're in love with right now...one which is currently being used as bed music on a Skins advert, by the brilliant, Fukkk Offf and the other, by Crookers, which we heard Annie Mac play at Cab Vol in Edinburgh back at the end of January when she did her Radio 1 Essential Mix from there. Hope you love them too. We think they're totes awesome.

Fukkk Offf - Bloodfuck
Crookers - We Love Animals (feat. Soulwax & Mixhell)
